Roll Forming
Why Total Metal Products?
Total Metal Products (TMP) are a sector leading machine design and tool making company which designs, manufactures, commissions and services high quality roll forming tooling systems.
Stretch Bending Solutions
We design our roll forming solutions to operate standalone or integrate seamlessly into your manufacturing process operations.
Our dedicated in-house design team, project management and production engineers work together to design and produce the optimum roll forming solution, meeting your specification and the requirements of your business; on time and on budget.
TMP has a variety of design solutions which we have developed to suit market needs. Our leading-edge roll forming solutions utilise the latest motion control systems to ensure accurate / repeatable control of the process; this has the added benefit of being quicker to tune to the desired shape and potentially have different stretch profiles for varying materials i.e., Aluminium extrusions which may vary in age hardness.
Depending on your product and manufacturing requirements we can provide coil unwinding systems for high output projects which are directly linked to the roll form lines. A further option is the provision of automatic cutting, punching or piercing systems which, when combined with coil unwinding feeding systems and automatic unloading systems, can significantly reduce manning requirements.
Low Volume Roll Forming
Our solutions produce components with a greater level of quality and complexity, utilising new material technologies, reducing cycle time and waste, which increases your process efficiency and cost effectiveness.
TMP also provides a solution for your prototype, low volume or end-of-life roll forming manufacturing requirements via our group partner company TMP Manufacturing.
TMP Manufacturing are able to provide for your low volume requirements, production to schedule, management of your raw material supply chain, finished product storage and onward delivery to your customer.

What is Roll Forming?
During the roll forming process the source material is a flat strip of steel, stainless steel or a non-ferrous metal of high strength. The source material is normally coiled and is of differing widths.
The process of roll forming (also referred to as rollforming, cold rolling or roll profiling) requires the source material strip to be passed through a sequence of modular pairs of rollers, roll stations, which form the desired cross-section. Each roll station performs one stage in the process complete bending is designed to progressively shape the strip until the desired profile shape is achieved. This process is conducted at room temperature.
Roll forming has many advantages. Roll forming lines can be set-up to enable longer lengths of finished product can be produced and in larger quantities; these efficiencies reduce costs. Also, additional processes for example punching, piercing or welding can be integrated into one production line. Roll formed material profiles can be produced which are similar to extruded aluminium.
Cold roll forming makes the production of lighter-weight steel parts more efficiently than alternative shaping processes, as the wall thickness can be targeted based on the finished products structural requirements.
It is also possible to roll parts which have a finish applied to the source material e.g., painted. Roll forming at room temperature is much more energy and cost efficient plus reduces the risk of material distortion than hot forming, and it can produce similarly complex profiles.
Roll forming has many applications across a broad range of industries, including automotive, mass transportation, construction and furniture industries; all sectors which TMP have experience of supporting.
